The classes aren't ruining PVP. It's the large influx of new players, and everyone playing crappy premade builds 'cuz they have no assassin or ritualist skills unlocked, that's degrading the random arena somewhat. When the expansion comes out for real, there might be a brief resurge of this sort of thing, but I imagine it'll settle down pretty quickly and PVP will be as good as ever.

lol I ended up in a team in RA: 1 rit (me), 2 necros, and 1 assassin. Both I and the assassin were on the builds offered (I was using the key as I didn't want to just delete a character with 15k armour), I was an Earthbinder. We really kicked ass after a couple of rounds and we were all used to our skills, 22 consective wins (I have screenie around somewhere) before we were completely owned in a flag running mission.

EDIT: Point to note, that last match was interesting. We completely hammered the opposition but there was one member we couldn't find, a mesmer who had situated herself just off the map. She owned us. I don't know how, but we couldn't do anything about it. 4/1 - we shouldn't have died, but she was GOOD.

I was really suprised my Ritualist spirit didnt report people in range, knowing how Rangers work. Yeah I hope that's the plan, it was disappointing.

I guess noteworthy though is UNLIKE Ranger spirits its either just allies getting the effects or they're kind of autonomous (ie dmg) or possibly just enemies (I played a lot of rit/mo but not the dmging one) - still think icon/some kind of indicator would help, yeah.. maybe just not done yet?

There will be.

Don't let yourself get ticked off on something you like by ppl's gripes on forums. Numa has a point, but why do you think Anet would hold a weekend like this. TO TEST. They will turn it off and go work with the lessons learned from this weekend to make things right for when they release it for real. I love a company that let's their entire player base test their new product for free.

Think of it this way, WoW is fee based and GW is free.
I think the free game would attract more noobs than a game that costs money to play.

Ok, I don't see any logic in this. Just because you have the money to spend on a game doesn't mean if you're a jerk or not. Personally, people in Pay to Play games are more of jerks and noobs because their time is precious and cost them money. Guild Wars players can play at thier leisure, and aren't constantly throwing thier money into it, and a lot of them are actually generous and nice. I'm sure both games have their good players and bad players, but I don't think that whether or not you pay more money for the game affects whether or not there are more or less noobs in it.

Well I don't think, I know. I've played both for a long time now and I must say almost the entire GuildWars is populated by noobs. So to blame WoW for all of GuildWars noobs is a stupid statement.

Almost the entire world of Guild Wars is populated by noobs? I don't think so. I play the game and I know many intelligent and worthwhile human beings, as well as my fair share of others. Guild Wars gets boring to a lot of people after a while because they're unsuccessful. In Guild Wars you're unsuccessful because you're unskilled, since you cap out at level 20. In WoW if you're unsuccessful, it's because you haven't weaved enough baskets for the level. Personally I think setting up a bar of 8 skills takes more thought than going to the river, getting weeds, drying them, cleaning them, weaving them into baskets so you can do the 'Basket Weaver In Distress Quest." I don't think anyone is saying that WoW is responsible for any of Guild Wars 'noobs,' which is why it's a stupid statement. I have no idea why you'd say that in the first place.
I'm in bold.

I have also noticed the so called "WoW n00bs" this weekend, I usually have my language filter turned off as GW is usually pretty acceptable along those lines, but I couldnt believe what is being said. 90% of it was for no reason other than stirring up trouble. And we know they are WoW players as they outrightly say how much GW sucks and how WoW owns it.

The worst is when you are in Random Arenas and get grouped with one of these guys. Ive had a good 20 games ruined by someone sitting back at the spawn calling everyone n00bs and ridiculing people.

They all seem to complain about no PvE in the demo and how PvP sucks. Heh, that tells you a lot about them.

I must say i agree with this. There is, at the moment, no real way of telling if someone plays GW or is testing it out. This is what Anet should do for future events as it would show that GW players are (in general) nice, helpful people unlike games like WoW.

Hello everyone. I am brand new to the game.... let me tell you why I decided to spend $50 on this game.

The PVP weekend.

I think it was an GREAT idea. I just bought the game becuase of the free event weekend.

I agree that the people on the PVP island are chumps in most cases, but I wouldn't blame it squarely on WoW. Some people just suck.

2) Lack of info.
Also, true... but anyone who can google or search this board can usually figure it out.

Hi everyone i'm new here to an the only reason i own GW is because it is free to play i cant see spending money to play a game i already own i payed for it once and i dont think that after that i should have to pay to play it...but my suggestion is instaed of calling them nOObs and turning our heads the other way a lil help goes along way....if it hadn't been for some experinced players in the game helping me along i would never have gotten intrested enough to stay and play for as long as i did...whats wrong with giving advice or helping them to the next mission town or outpost... help the nOObs and then they become players....we were all noobs at some point

Absolutely true and I have to admit I still am new. I don't think the problem is with inexperienced players, it's certain people who like other games coming in just to deliberately trash the event and try to turn potential customers off buying the game. What good reason could anyone have to stand around yelling swears and racial epithets? Isn't there any way the moderators can boot people who are obviously trolls?

I just want to make clear that I'm using noob in the present meaning "person being rude and/or idiotic", not noob in the original sense of newbie/beginner.

I like newbies, I help newbies whenever I can. These guys, however, were being noobs.

As someone coming from a WoW background to evaluate GW on it's merits I did notice immediately how similar the chat channels seemed to be. I'm relived to hear that this is not usually the case!

As far as the event goes; I do think that for enticing new players (such as myself) having some PvE component would be beneficial. As an introduction to a game as complex as GW getting dumped into the deep end with PvP was tough and yes I sucked... still the concept was great so kudos to Anet for that.

Hahaha, honestly this situation isn't much different than usual. The game has a horrible commmunity in general. It isn't usually so random or common, but it happens often during PvP matches, and it is nearly impossible to get into a group for anything because the majority of people that play are "Elitists", and refuse to allow anyone into a group that isn't a Monk, Warrior, or capable of directly aiding the tactics of a "Flavor of the month" build. Untill IWAY, I was literally incapable of doing any PvP other than Random Arenas as a Ranger, because no one wanted a ranger in their group. Unless I decided to make my own team with NPC's, in which case anyone would be quickly raped by the PC's..

Well, as a newly devoted Ritualist, I have to admit that the class has great potential to be extremely powerful (if you play your cards right), especially combined with a few choice monk skills. But, to address more issues in this thread:

Spirits should not be able to body block. I agree with this wholeheartedly.

Ranger spirits probably should not count as ritualist spirits for the purpose of channeling spells.

Assassins are broken. I watched a single A/r utterly decimate an entire opposing team, alone, and then proceed to laugh about it. Someone take a look at Templestrike recently? That's some seriously RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOed up shit. And you guys thought diversion was irritating. Also, Illusionary weaponry is insanely powerful, combined with the assassin ability to teleport, and the fact that an assassin can readily doublestrike. This also goes for the ability to use sharpen daggers with ANY weapon, allowing a ranger to inflict 3 conditions on someone with every arrow, while simultaniously interrupting, AND receiving bonuses from assassin critical-hit and damage-boosting skills. 3 conditions. Interrupt. Per... arrow...

Outheal THAT.

Now... that doesn't mean assassins need a downgrade. It just means that certain key skills need a bug fix. Don't forget, when GW was in beta, incendiary arrows and kindle arrows worked with staves, too.

As for the WoW morons spamming things up... I dunno if some of them ARE from WoW or not, but... whoever they are, I can say that they HAVE accounted for at least four or five people that I know personally, leaving the game. (one because one of the guys kept creating new accounts or characters and showing up in outposts spamming "NI**ER, NI**ER, NI**ER!!!" over and over again, and spewing tons of other racial slurs.)
I wish that ANet could do something about it... but there's not much they CAN do, really. At least there's only 1 more day of it left.

aside from that, this has been a great event. It's been a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to the full release. Keep cool, and hopefully I'll see some of you in the competition arena after this is all done.

Ah well, I still think I will give it a try, getting sick of WoW.

I only have one gripe, having PvP'ed my ass off during the weekend (OK, it was mostly kicked by the AI teams until the brilliant guy put me on his spirits team), and that's the way the Assassin runs. Can't stand it. Someone described it as a "drunken chimpanzee," and they're right. I'm sure it's supposed to seem stealthy but it just looks lame.
